The painting “Frenzy (Frenzy of Elation)” was made by Władysław Podkowiński in 1894. It belongs to the collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
The artist worked under the pseudonym “Andrzej Ansgary”. He lived in the years 1866-1895. He was a Polish painter and illustrator. Also a precursor of impressionism in Poland. Towards the end of his life he leaned towards symbolism.
His most famous painting is the title “Frenzy of Exultation”. It shows a naked woman sitting on a horse that “rears”. It was shown for the first time in an atmosphere of scandal during an exhibition at the Warsaw Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts. In unexplained circumstances, the artist cut the painting just before the planned closing of the exhibition.
