One of the leading representatives of the Young Poland movement, lived from 1869 to 1946. A painter, draftsman, graphic artist, author of stained glass windows and a set disgner.

The painting shows the painter’s wife in an estate in Jankówka near Cracow. The woman is immersed in reading and shielded from the sun by the titular red umbrella. The canvas is the artist’s farewell to the estate he sold in the same year.
