The painting “Strange Garden” was made by Józef Mehoffer in 1902-1903. It belongs to the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw.

A leading representative of Young Poland, painter, draftsman, graphic artist, designer od stained glass and theatrical scenery. He lived 1869-1946.

The painting was created during the summer vacation of the artist and his family. It presents three people: a wife, a son and a nanny. The painting is filled with lush greenery, flowers grass, sharp sun, all the elements that reveal a hot summer. The harmony is disturbed by a huge dragonfly, which may be a trace of the presence of the painter himself. The dragonfly was shown in a stained glass manner.
