The heritage of Polish folk art lies primarily with regional embroidery. Ornaments from the Cracow region have been characterized as the most notable decorations in Poland. Etnographers divide the Cracow region into the western part (that includes the city of Cracow, surrounding villages and towns in the north-west) and the eastern part (including south-east outskirts of the city and areas further towards Brzesko and Tarnów).
